CURE-ND symposium at Alzheimer Europe

The 34th edition of the Alzheimer Europe congress was themed "New horizons – Innovating for dementia" and took place on 8-10 October 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. It brought together 963 delegates from 42 European countries, including 37 people with dementia.

CURE-ND hosted a symposium, moderated by Prof. Siddarthan Chandran (director UK Dementia Research Institute), which highlighted some synergies and collaborative projects within the CURE-ND alliance.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Jenny Ceccarini (Mission Lucidity, program manager): The importance of European collaboration for neurodegenerative diseases
  • Prof. Dr. Siddharthan Chandran (UK DRI, Director): The value of human centred discovery research
  • Dr. Théophile Bieth (ICM, practicing neurologist): Clinical aspects of early diagnosis
  • Prof. Dr. Valentina Escott-Price (UK DRI, University of Cardiff): Global swarm learning of ethnically-diverse AD polygenic risk, in collaboration with Prof. Joachim Schultze (DZNE)

The subsequent panel discussion raised attention to the need for long-term funding and support for global, collaborative dementia research efforts. We need to work together to stimulate innovation and drive progress in research, clinical care and preventive measures for Alzheimer's disease.

Prof. Siddarthan Chandran: "Within the CURE-ND alliance, we bring together over 2,000 of the world's leading dementia researchers. However, the key challenge is enhancing our alliance's visibility to maximize its impact. Advancing innovation and research to tackle a global issue like dementia requires strong collaboration—across disciplines, institutions, and borders."
