New Leuven-Paris collaborations
First launched in 2016 by the Paris Brain Institute, the Big Brain Theory (BBT) Program funds innovative, interdisciplinary, high-risk research projects between teams of the institute. After three successful editions supporting a total of 33 research projects, this year’s call was opened for the first time to international strategic partners, including Mission Lucidity.
Among 7 submitted interdisciplinary pioneering Paris-Leuven proposals, the two following collaborative 2-year projects have been granted seed funding (€100k per leading investigator) and will start this Summer:
SynapTime
"Mechanisms of variations in the tempo of synaptogenesis and their impact on brain circuit assembly and plasticity"
- Led by Prof. Bassem Hassan (Paris Brain Institute, INSERM researcher) and Prof. Pierre Vanderhaeghen (VIB-KU Leuven)
- Aims to study the mechanisms underlying the synaptic developmental timing, and their impact on neural circuits.
- This project is funded by the generosity of donors of Paris Brain Institute – the Fondation Marie-Françoise Parayre Chaufour.
SAPAG-D
"Multimodal Sensing of Apathy and Agitation in Dementia”
- Led by Prof. Benedicte Batrancourt (Paris Brain Institute) and Prof. Maarten Van Den Bossche (KU/UZ Leuven)
- Aims to identify a set of digital markers for measuring and quantifying apathy and agitation in a real-life context using continuous multimodal sensing.
- This project is funded by the Paris Brain Institute and Opening the Future (KU Leuven).
Congratulations to all research teams! We look forward to the outcome of these promising collaborations.
These projects are made possible thanks to the strong partnership between the Paris Brain Institute and Mission Lucidity within the CURE-ND alliance.
